Bryan Adams to visit Halton Stadium in Widnes as part of 2021 open air tour

The “Summer of 69” singer’s performance at the DCBL Stadium will form the centrepiece for Halton’s year as the city region’s Borough of Culture.

Canadian superstar Bryan Adams will play Halton’s DCBL Stadium next year as part of the 2021 Borough of Culture celebrations.

The “Summer of 69” singer will take to the stage in Widnes on July 2, 2021, with tickets going on sale at 9am this Friday (December 11).

The Widnes gig will form part of the singer’s 2021 UK tour and will be the first major performance at the stadium since Elton John played there in 2017.

Halton Council hinted last month to the Liverpool Echo that it would soon be announcing a “big name” to play the stadium during its Borough of Culture year, with councillors and officers hoping it would prove to be as successful as the sell-out Elton John gig.

Cllr Phil Harris, the council’s executive board member responsible for the stadium, said: “I’m delighted we have another huge gig coming to the stadium and expect it to be as great a success as the Elton John tour visit was.

“This is something both residents and many local businesses can look forward to in 2021, after what has been a very challenging year.”

Like the rest of the Borough of Culture celebrations, the gig will depend on how the coronavirus situation develops. But with a vaccine on the way, council officers are hopeful that the restrictions will have been lifted by July.

Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday and are available at aegpresents.co.uk, axs.com, ticketmaster.co.uk and bryanadams.com.

First rising to prominence with his 1984 album Reckless, Adams is known for a plethora of hits including ‘Run To You’, ‘Heaven’ and ‘Summer of 69’. Since his debut, he has released 12 studio albums and five live albums. 1991 hit single ‘Everything I Do (I Do It For You)’, which featured in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, still holds the record for the most consecutive weeks spent at the top of the UK singles chart with an impressive 16-week run.

Adams released Ultimate back in 2017, which featured a host of much-loved hits as well as two new tracks ‘Ultimate Love’ and ‘Please Stay’ and was followed by Shine a Light in 2019. With so many hits under his belt, Adams has plenty of material to tour with. In 2021 he takes to the road for a series of outdoor shows up and down the UK.
