CAST and Space will be headlining Warrington Music Festival on Sunday, May 28 – and tickets are free.

Warrington Music Festival teamed up with Golden Square last year to secure the event’s future after it was cancelled at the last minute in 2015. In 2017 they will return to an 90’s throwback scene  when the Liverpool bands take to the outdoor stage at the Old Fish Market, in-front of an attendance of up to 3,000 fans. The event will round off a weekend of music, which will see local artists play the same stage the day earlier (Saturday May 29, Bank Holiday weekend).

Radio X presenter and Inspiral Carpets keyboardist Clint Boon will also be doing a DJ set on the night.

Cast and Space will close the not-for-profit festival, now in its 10th year, after a full day of performances by emerging and unsigned Warrington and north west bands on Saturday, May 27.

Ian Cox, centre director of Golden Square, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that Cast and Space will be playing at this year’s GS Music Festival.

“Both of the bands are touring again this year and we’re incredibly lucky and excited that they agreed to be a part of our free celebration of music.

“Last year’s event was brilliant, a really huge success.

“But we wanted to make this year’s even better and we’re excited that for 2017 we’re able to offer free entry.

“The fact that we’ve secured some of the area’s biggest names to perform underlines how committed we are to making this a weekend to remember.”

“We’ve played host to some great acts over the last few years, everyone from Happy Mondays and Reverend and the Makers to the Lightning Seeds.

“But to have giants like this – and all from our region too – is really a coup for us. This is going to be a banner year for the festival.”

Formed in the early 90s, Cast, who performed at V Festival at Victoria Park in 1996, have released five studio albums.

Their debut All Change became the biggest-selling debut of all time for Polydor Records, and their second album Mother Nature Calls also went platinum.

Also from Liverpool, Space enjoyed huge success in the mid-90s with their singles Neighbourhood and Female of the Species securing them chart success and ensuring albums Spiders and 1998’s Tin Planet were big sellers.

The four-piece were also well known for teaming up with Cerys Matthews for The Ballad of Tom Jones which they performed for Jools Holland’s New Year’s Eve Hootenanny.

Reuniting in 2011 after a few years apart, the band have been recording and performing at festivals across the country, with their last album, 2014’s Attach of the Mutant 50ft Kebab.

Warrington Music Festival is one of their first live dates of the year.

Previous headliners of Warrington Music Festival have included Dance/Indie legends, Happy Mondays, Scouting For Girls and The Lightening Seeds over the years.
